How It Works

STEP 1

Upload Your MOV

Upload a MOV or M4V file up to 100 MB. These files are recorded on iPhones, iPads, Mac screen recordings, and older Apple video cameras. The tool previews the video in-browser and shows file size and duration so you can confirm the correct file before converting.

STEP 2

Choose Settings

Select quality — Original keeps the MOV's video and audio streams exactly as-is, just re-wrapped into an MP4 container (near-instant, lossless). High and Medium apply mild compression to reduce file size. Optionally downscale resolution for smaller output compatible with more platforms.

STEP 3

Download MP4

Download the converted MP4. It plays on Windows, Android phones, smart TVs, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and every video player — no QuickTime or Apple software required. The filename is preserved with the .mp4 extension for easy identification.

MOV to MP4 Features

Fast Re-mux at Original Quality

Many MOV files use H.264 video and AAC audio — the same codecs used inside MP4. In this case, the tool re-muxes (repackages) the streams into an MP4 container without re-encoding, making conversion nearly instant with zero quality loss. Only MOV files using Apple-specific codecs require a full transcode.

iPhone & iPad Videos

iPhones record in MOV format (HEVC/H.265 for recent models, H.264 for older). The resulting files can't be natively played on many Android devices, Windows laptops, or web platforms without conversion. This tool converts iPhone MOV recordings to MP4 for universal sharing on WhatsApp, Google Drive, YouTube, and more.

Universal MP4 Output

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is the most universally supported video format on the planet. It plays natively on Windows (Media Player, Edge, Chrome), Android (all versions), smart TVs, gaming consoles, Chromecast, Apple TV, and every major video hosting service without plugins or conversion.

Resolution Options

Keep the original resolution for maximum quality, or downscale to 1080p, 720p, or 480p to reduce file size. iPhone 4K MOV files are typically 300–600 MB per minute of video — downscaling to 1080p makes them practical for sharing via email, iMessage file attachments, and cloud storage.

In-Browser Preview

Preview the MOV video in-browser (if your browser supports QuickTime playback) before converting. Duration and file size are shown regardless of preview support. This lets you verify the right file is selected and assess whether resolution reduction is needed before starting the conversion.

Private & No Account Needed

TLS 1.3 encrypted uploads. Files permanently deleted within 24 hours. No watermarks added to converted videos. No account, signup, or personal information required for the free tier.

Frequently Asked Questions

MOV is Apple's proprietary QuickTime container format. While modern versions of Windows 10/11 can play some MOV files via their native codecs, many MOV files — particularly those using Apple-specific codecs like ProRes or older MPEG-4 variants — require QuickTime Player or codec packs. Android has no native MOV support at all. Converting to MP4 solves all compatibility issues instantly.

At Original quality, if the MOV contains H.264 video (common in older iPhones and Macs), the conversion is a re-mux — zero quality loss because no re-encoding happens. For MOV files using HEVC or ProRes, a transcode is required, but at Original quality the output bitrate is set to match the source, making the visual difference imperceptible. Only Medium or lower quality settings introduce noticeable compression.

iPhones record in MOV format (.mov extension). iPhone models from iPhone 7 onwards default to HEVC (H.265) encoding inside the MOV container. If you're uploading from iCloud Drive or AirDrop, the file should have a .mov extension. If you're emailing or sharing via iMessage, iOS may automatically convert to MP4 depending on the recipient's platform. This tool handles both H.264 and HEVC MOV files.

Yes. M4V is another Apple container format used for iTunes video purchases and downloads. Unprotected M4V files (personal videos, non-DRM content) are accepted and convert cleanly to MP4. DRM-protected M4V files from iTunes purchases cannot be converted — only files you own outright or have converted for personal use are supported.
