Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year. Standard US: $25/hr × 40 × 52 = $52,000/yr. The "× 2080" shortcut assumes 40 hrs × 52 wks.
Biweekly = every 2 weeks = 26 paychecks/year. Semimonthly = twice per month (e.g. 1st and 15th) = 24 paychecks/year. Biweekly is slightly larger per check because of 2 extra paychecks.
Yes if your salary is "earned per week worked" (typical for hourly). Set weeks/year to 50 if you take 2 weeks unpaid. Salaried workers usually keep weeks/year at 52.
Gross (pre-tax). After federal income tax, state tax, and FICA (7.65% Social Security + Medicare), US take-home is typically 70–78% of gross depending on bracket and state.
2080 hours (40 × 52). Commonly used by US payroll: $52,000 / 2080 = $25/hr exactly. Australia uses 1976 (38 × 52). Many EU countries use 1820 (35 × 52).
