How It Works
Upload Image
Upload any PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF. The tool reads the image dimensions and any embedded EXIF orientation data. Sideways photos from smartphones often have correct content but an EXIF orientation tag telling viewers to rotate the display — our Auto-fix EXIF option permanently applies this rotation so the image is correct on all platforms.
Choose Operation
Select rotate 90° CW (right), rotate 180° (upside down), rotate 90° CCW (left), flip horizontal (mirror left-right), flip vertical (mirror top-bottom), or Auto-fix EXIF (reads orientation from EXIF metadata and bakes it in). You can also chain operations in Pro tier — for example, flip then rotate.
Download Result
Download your transformed image. Rotation and flipping are lossless operations for PNG — no pixel data is modified, just reordered. For JPEG, the output undergoes a re-encode (choose PNG output to avoid any re-compression). WebP output uses lossless encoding for PNG sources and lossy for JPEG sources.
Rotate & Flip Features
6 Transformation Modes
Rotate 90° clockwise, rotate 180°, rotate 90° counter-clockwise, flip horizontally (mirror left-right), flip vertically (mirror top-bottom), and Auto-fix EXIF (permanently bake in the EXIF rotation tag). All six operations cover every orientation correction use case from smartphone photos to scanned documents.
EXIF Orientation Auto-Fix
Modern smartphone cameras save images at full resolution in landscape orientation and store the rotation angle as an EXIF tag. Many image viewers apply this tag automatically — but not all. Our EXIF auto-fix reads the orientation tag and permanently rotates the image data to match, then strips the orientation EXIF tag. This ensures the image displays correctly in every context, including browsers, email, and social media.
Mirror / Flip
Flip horizontally to mirror an image left-right (useful for selfies that appear reversed, or to create symmetrical compositions). Flip vertically to mirror top-bottom (useful for reflection effects or upside-down text art). Both operations work on all supported image formats including transparent PNGs, with full alpha channel preservation.
Lossless PNG & WebP
Rotation and flipping are geometrically lossless — no pixel colour values are changed, only their positions. When outputting as PNG or lossless WebP, the result is pixel-for-pixel identical in terms of colour to the source, just oriented differently. This makes the tool safe for archival use, medical images, and design assets where you need exact colour reproduction.
All Major Formats
PNG (with transparency), JPEG, WebP, GIF (all frames rotated), BMP, TIFF, and ICO files are all supported. Animated GIF rotation applies the transformation to every frame, preserving timing and loop settings. SVG files can be rotated using CSS transform in code rather than bitmap rotation.
Private & No Account Needed
All uploads use TLS 1.3 encryption. Files are processed in isolated containers and permanently deleted within 24 hours. No watermarks. No account, signup, or personal information required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Smartphones save photos at the camera's physical sensor orientation (usually landscape) and store the rotation as an EXIF orientation tag. Your phone's camera app and most modern image viewers read this tag and display the photo correctly. However, many websites, email clients, Windows Explorer thumbnails, and older software don't read EXIF orientation — they display the raw pixel data, which appears sideways. Use our Auto-fix EXIF option to permanently rotate the pixel data and remove the EXIF tag, so the photo displays correctly everywhere.
Rotation turns the image around its centre point by a fixed angle (90°, 180°, 270°). The result is the same image viewed from a different angle, with dimensions potentially swapped (a 400×300 image rotated 90° becomes 300×400). Flipping mirrors the image — horizontal flip reflects left↔right (like a mirror), vertical flip reflects top↔bottom. Flipped images have the same dimensions as the source. Note: 180° rotation = horizontal flip + vertical flip.
Standard (lossy) JPEG rotation re-encodes the file, applying another round of JPEG compression which technically reduces quality slightly. For most practical purposes the degradation is invisible. To avoid any quality loss, choose PNG output when rotating — this performs lossless decoding of the JPEG, rotation, and re-encodes as lossless PNG. Alternatively, Pro users can use lossless JPEG rotation (jpegtran) which rotates without re-encoding for 90° multiples.
Yes — rotating an animated GIF applies the transformation to every frame while preserving frame timing, transparency, and loop settings. The output is an animated GIF with all frames at the new orientation. Note that GIF uses a limited colour palette (256 colours max) and the re-encoding may introduce slight colour changes in dithered areas, but the animation and timing are preserved exactly.
Custom angle rotation (any degree, not just 90° multiples) is available in the Pro tier. Custom angle rotation requires expanding the canvas to contain the rotated image without cropping corners — the exposed corners are filled with a transparent (PNG/WebP) or solid colour (JPEG) background. The free tier supports 90°, 180°, and 270° rotations which don't require canvas expansion.
